Hard to believe

Edinburgh, aka any deadly 1960s European new town / bomb site in-fill.

I had the unusual experience of actually sitting on a Princes St bench this afternoon while my parents had a wee rest en route from Waterstone's to the Galleries.

Watching the traffic and people go by, i realized this really is not the Edinburgh we know, love and boast of.

Of course, the original grand plan was to replace the whole street with this modern design, providing an upper level walkway along its length. Simultaneously, the same planners were giving the go-ahead for the demolition of late-Georgian/early Victorian(?) Leith Street with its...upper level walkway!!!!

Hard to believe.
