One for the enthusiasts, a Fordson Major

The night wasn't too bad despite the very small bed and the footboard at the end and the main road outside the bedroom window.

Breakfast was ok, immaculately served; muesli, grapefruit, fruit yoghurt, crunchy toast and pastries but little choice if you wanted to avoid sweet things.

We worked off the excesses of last night and the breakfast with a very pleasant 9 mile walk from Petersfield to Nyewood and back, hoping to find a pub or cafe in that village for lunch. We were disappointed as, although there was a micro brewery, there wasn't anywhere to have a bite to eat. We sustained our sleeves with our water until the end of the walk when we drove to Uppark, a nearby National Trust property for a sandwich, tea and scones.

Today's blip was obvious really, squatting there, hidden in the undergrowth. It was a Fordson Major tractor that I used to drive in the early 1970s pulling the mowers at Wellington Cricket Club. Wouldn't be allowed to do that as a teenager now, but great fun then. I'm sure some enterprising tractor enthusiast would be able to restore this to its former glory and to another tractor of an unknown make the other side of the tree.

A long drive home across country took 3 hours to travel 82 miles but it was a Friday evening and by all accounts the other option, the M25, was a car park for most of the day.

A good day for our 14th wedding anniversary.
