The Man Engine
Smallest awoke at 7 and did a weather check - declaring it too grey, rainy and foggy for Culdrose Air Day. The urgency for an early start off, we resorted to Plan B - an adventure to St Austell to see The Man Engine.
We made our pack ups, grabbed our pac-a-macs and caught the train from Falmouth to Snozzle. The wait at Truro found Mike and Sarah waiting for their train to London so we entertained them for 30 minutes on the platform.
The first tie I've actually been into the centre of St Austell, MrRoly and I were both impressed by the walk down from the station. We found The Man Engine and waited for an hour as it got steadily busier. We were lucky enough to find a quiet area so it never felt too crowded and we had a super view. A strange event but I'm very glad we went and the kids enjoyed it too.
Once it had transformed, we killed birds with stones and stocked up on trainers in Sports Direct then returned to see more of The Man Engine - by now the crowds had cleared a lot so we could clearly see the puppeteers doing their thing. We watched until he transformed back into his folded down form and left happy.
Poor no planning on our part meant an hour wait for a train - our attempts to find somewhere for a cuppa and cake were thwarted as everywhere was either fun or closed. We eventually found the world's worst cake bakery - I swear the vanilla slice had dream toppping in it and Princess's cake was a nasty sponge covered in cooking chocolate...
An uneventful train journey home and a final treat of tea at The Red Rooster Diner made for a splendidly adventurous grand day out.
