... It means the world

Today my Internet connection has been painfully slow and I have struggled to get into any application. It made me realise just how much I use it and depend on it.

With my family a long way away it is the best means of communicating with them by far. Gone are the days when huge phone bills, delayed mail or even no communication at all were the results of my young travelling abroad. Now they are a Skype or Facebook message away and I am a surfer on Facebook as it allows me to keep up with what the family are doing without the need for constant phone calls. With grandchildren this has become even more important and I have joined the realms of the granny who lives in the computer.

I use google any time I want to research things, and enjoy shopping for many items from the comfort of my home. When I travel I use the Internet to find the best deals on trains and flights and can even choose my seat.

The sharing of photos with the family online has always been great but now with my blip journal they feel more part of my daily life despite being so far away. Not only that, I now have new friends across the world who share my enthusiasm for photography and who are willing to introduce me to their lives and surroundings so i am getting to learn about places I may never be able to travel to. I now have an iPad which provides me even more flexibility.

The world used to be a huge and distant place but the digital age has changed all that and you can now reach out and touch it. It has completely enhanced my life and I love it.
