Woodhall Dean

We went to East Lothian in search of a nature reserve called Woodhall Dean.  It was not easy to find as it wasn't well sign posted.  At the entrance to the sight there was a sign warning of adders, Britains only venomous snake.  I had never heard of an adder before, but despite my fear of snakes we ventured into the nature reserve to see the ancient trees.  I foolishly thought that we probably won't come across any adders:  we saw 4 adders during our walk.  They just slunk away when we walked past.  I coped well with the first 3, but by the fourth one I started to get very nervous as it was very close to us.  I was glad when we found the exit.  It is a beautiful spot and well worth a visit if you can cope with the adders, I cannot so don't think I will return myself.  I now know why there is a snake on the opening credits of one of my favourite sitcoms.
