Cooling Off In The Cam.
Home from my visit to Bexhill-on-Sea where some of my family live. Took a walk to the Cam where this chap was having a swim. Several people have recently fallen ill from swimming in the river as the urine from rats causes Weil's disease. I have added a couple of extras. One of boats on a choppy sea and the other is Winkle Island, which today, occupies a place between Hastings town and the fishermen's Stade. It was once the heart of maritime trade in Hastings and in the 17th century was a beach. Now a paved area it became known as Winkle Island by the Hastings Winkle Club, formed in 1900.Winston Churchill was a member and the late Queen Mother was a Patron and received a winkle brooch. Our present Queen also was given a brooch when she visited. A very interesting place, full of history. I took the pictures last week so couldn't post them today.
