Collecting heat

Have you ever tried to take a picture of your own eye from the side? I tried about 200 today but didn't get the one I wanted so that will have to wait for another day.

In the summer months, I am sure this wood would be collected and sold but in winter, it would be taken home and burned to heat the house. My apartment is heated by four radiators in the walls at different spots.. Water is heated using coal and then pumped through the entire building. The same system is used all over China (if the area is cold enough) although the newer buildings seem to have the heat in the floors which is a much better and efficient way to do it. Most my my heat goes up the wall. My apartment is warm enough but I have no control over the heat. No way to turn it up so that I don't have to wear a sweater all the time when I am home. The heat comes on for a few hours at about 5:00am and then again at about 6:00pm for a few hours. I think.. I am never really sure.

This man (and a lot of others) live in 'houses' that don't have that heating system so they have to find and burn wood to keep themselves warm.

Maybe one day I will take a few pics of the type of houses that I am talking about but I feel a bit like a voyeur when I think about taking pics over that way. Here am I, a 'wealthy foreigner' taking pics of their run down, pieced together home with a camera that cost more than earn in a couple of years. Feels kinds awful but maybe I will get over it one day.
