Athabasca River look out
- Bit of a disaster on the orienteering front today because the sole of my shoe came off half way round my course. This meant I had to retire but was a long way from the finish. Tried tying the sole on with my shoe laces which lasted a bit longer . Luckily the forest floor is very soft and mossy. Had to buy a new pair of orienteering shoes at vast expense - 40% more than in the UK aaahhh.
An exhausting climb up very steep path to the Athabasca River lookout point about 5000 ft,. We were anticipating amazing views- but it started to rain. Today was going to be one of those days when nothing goes to plan. This is the view from the top with the ominous rain clouds in the distance.
The only good thing was that we found a geocache at the top that has been in place 15 years and not found very often. It took us ages to find it; I expect the vegetation and brashings have increased in the time it has been here. The extra is a relieved M signing the log book.
