Light Polution
Bit of an experiment from the back garden hence the amount of light polution.
I think I'm finally beginning to understand star trails a bit better now or I think so anyhow, just have to get the location location location bit...

For anyone interested in star trails here's how I go about it.
First of all you will definately need a torch to basically help get the camera setup, light up any foreground and prevent you falling down a cravas, a tripod and a cable release.
I've been just focusing to infinity as its quite hard to see anything when its so dark. Take your exposures in this case I took 20 second exposures for 1 hour but you can adjust that to suit eg 30 second exposures for 30 minutes.
Once youve taken your shots put the lens cap on and keep taking shots for about another 20 mins. These are basically called dark frames and help keep the noise and over exposure to a minimum.
Load all the shots into the Star Trails application and let it do its thing. It also allows you to do little movies which is good for timelapse photography.

Hope that all makes sense really a bit of trial an error to be honest.
