Tyne Cot cemetery detail

I could have posted a sea of almost 12,000 white headstones being beautifully tended by a team of gardeners and being visited by quite a number of people of all ages. I could have shown a glimpse of the huge list of almost 35,000 names of those with no known grave .... (from after 16 August 1917 as the Menin Gate was full). So hard to get one's head around the scale of lives ... of people ... lost and the impact on their families and local communities .. from many nations.

For all this, it is ... as you'd expect ... an elegant and sober place and I decided to include this detail. The whole cemetery and monument was designed by Sir Herbery Baker. This little sculpture is the work of either Ferdinand Victor Blundstone or Joseph Armitage. I wonder which gent it is ....
