Tabarca Island
The tiny Island of Tabarca, a few miles off the coast of Alicante City, was our destination today, with a group of friends from the U3A.
The island is almost 2 km long and 300 m wide.....with a population of 69 people!
Fishing is the main industry; and the waters around the island are crystal clear......the Marine Reserve around the island was set up in the 1980s
However, tourism ...especially in July and August is mighty important!
My Blip shows the streets, colourfully decorated for the local fiestas.....the lively restaurants were doing a roaring business, even to musicians playing and singing Viva España! The most popular restaurants offered shade, a cooling breeze as well as good food and drink!
