Up and Down and All Around

The good news is - we managed to buy a large mattress - in Montargil - only 20km away.

To get there, we went over the dam - finished in 1958, with a large, engraved-in-stone monument to Salazar (dictator at the time). As ever in the Alentejo, practically deserted - we wandered over to where they let the water out - massively deep tube - felt quite wobbly as I leaned over to take a photo - wrong lens to capture all of it and the rainbows - but we did have dinner after midnight last night, so not at my most alert when we left the house. Crazy schedule, but we were at a meeting till late, and too busy to eat beforehand.

Also as ever in the Alentejo, so much kindness - was asking girl in shop where we could buy a mattress cover - she was trying to draw a map, when another customer said, look, I'll take you there, just follow my car - so we did, up and down and round all the narrow streets - don't think we'd have found it otherwise.
