Welcome Great Niece Sidney Anne Cooper and Goodbye
My dear Frances' sister's son Scot and his beautiful wife, Molly, yesterday welcomed into our world their third daughter, Sidney Anne Cooper!
The baby is, of course, beautiful. The family is excited, and we are certain she too will be a "ginger," just like her mother, her father, and her sisters! The DNA of the Scottish ancestors continues strong down the generations.
My Frances and I came home from the hospital expressing to one another our continued amazement at the cycle of life and of the opportunities given us to love and to be loved.

On the passages side of life, I learned today that my research associate and friend, Professor Charlotte Ford of Athens, Georgia, died Monday, 18 July, in Athens. She was 95. She had continued an active research and study agenda until the lasts year of her life. She was a truly strong but gentle woman who dealt with life's challenges and disappointments with grace. Charlotte was not treated fairly by her profession. Few women were then treated fairly.
Part of Professor Ford's legacy was her participation in the struggle for equal treatment and recognition for women in the academy. Additionally, Charlotte made significant contributions to our knowledge of 19th century women's issues.
As the African proverb so well says, "When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground."
Charlotte Ford was a library that will never be replaced.
I will miss her.
Keep smilin'
