Young people's engagement jam
Made it through the torrential rain and lightning to Glasgow this morning for a meeting with some 20 care experienced young people. Th e purpose was to explore with them their priorities for a Young Person's "Board" for the Children's Hearings system. I've put "Board" in parenthesis as we do not wish automatically to slot into traditional adult governance. Instead we want to explore what the young people and their representatives might wish to do to improve the system, and then adapt our structures to fit in.
This is the start of a process, but a good one and various ideas were bouncing around. We were not permitted to photograph the young people in order to protect them, so this is a more neutral view of the event.
The weather improved in the afternoon fortunately. In the morning being in Haymarket Station was like being inside a drum. The roof is plastic and the noise from the rain was deafening.
The extra is of "oor Willie" as a cowboy in Glasgow Central Station. Various models are on show across Scotland to mark a milestone in the publication of oor Willie and the Broons.
