US Holiday Day 7
San Francisco.
A beautiful town but not got the Wow factor of the last few days. I am not sure if I could have taken any more wows just yet.
The picture is of the Coit Tower, not very well known to the Americans I have spoken too, unless its my pronunciation. It was built in the late '20 -early '30 as a work creation scheme and looks like a stylized lighthouse. On the ground floor are murals painted at the same time also to create jobs. These are very simple (possibly primitive) stunningly beautiful, full of scenes from everyday life.
The good news is there is a lift inside to take you to the top. The bad news is there are over 400 steps to climb before you get to the bottom of the tower. There are various routes up, we took the prettiest one, passed the gardens of houses built into the hillside. I took a lot of shots on the way up, stopping regularly. This was for artistic reasons, nothing to do with the fact I could hardly breath. The views from the top were worth it though.
The extra picture is one of the famous San Francisco cable cars as it crested the hill. We rode on one, it rattled and banged and shuddered up and down the hills. Would have been better if not filled to overflowing with tourists (like us)
