Cinnabar Caterpillar ...

It was our first tropical summer day this year - and perhaps the last ... ;-) A plant you see a lot these days, is Jacobaea vulgaris, or ragwort, stinking willie, tansy ragwort, benweed, St. James-wort in common English. On the Internet you can find still more names. The plant is poisonous to humans and animals.

But for the caterpillar of the cinnabar moth it's food and protection. It has almost no natural enemies. The poison is stocked in the skin ... so, inedible!
