Alms Giving Ceremony

An early start to be in the perfect place to see one of the most sacred Lao traditions, the Buddhist Alms Giving Ceremony.

Despite being a highly revered ritual for locals, visitors are encouraged to be involved as long as a level of respect is maintained throughout. An important part of this is remaining a respectful distance away and allowing this daily ceremony to go ahead without disturbance.

Unfortunately not all tourists are equipped with such skills, show little respect for the monks or the faithful donors and demonstrate limited self awareness. Little surprise then that there is growing concern and controversy about tourists involvement in this amazing tradition.
