Tiny Tuesday : : Etcheverria
This succulent has been on our front porch since we unceremoniously dumped it without much thought when we moved here three and a half years ago. The Berkeley house was sold and the new owners were about to move in so we had to make a final trip there to empty out the one-time garage, turned spider filled last resort storage space for unwanted items. items we might use some day but knew we wouldn't. It was pouring rain and very windy as we ran back and forth shoveling junk from the garage and the garden into Dana's poor car.
I don't know how it is in other parts of the world, but in California, garages are often so full of bicycles, skis, sports equipment, canning jars, paint cans, tools, boxes, skates, hula hoops and camping equipment that there's no room for a car. Newer suburban houses often have three or four car garages, some of which contain workbenches or old sofas and a television (the original "man cave").
The pot with the etcheverria in it has survived and thrived where we dumped it that day. The stem got so thick that I planted some petunias in front of it. Will and Peter decorated the pot with their handprints when they were preschoolers. I put a picture of it in the extras.Every time I come up the front steps I think I'll move it to a more suitable place, but now that I think about it, what could possibly be a more suitable place?
Thanks to Walking Wombat for suggesting that we can all vote for our favorites. She explains how here.
