Here and gone

WOMAD 4

The layout of WOMAD changes little from year to year so when I arrive I more or less know my way around, I recognise the decorations, like this, from previous years, and I know what's new, such as this year's chequered flags. It's extraordinary to think that after I left last year until shortly before I arrived this year this happy, vibrant, musical village simply didn't exist, even though several friends I really enjoy seeing each year inhabit it with me.

And soon it won't exist again, except in memories, images, sounds on the air and the anticipation of next year.
