Ice cream first, then cake and beer
We stayed down in Rio both because HH feels he may still need the doctors and because we had an invitation to a barbecue lunch (at the vicarage, in spite of not being church-goers). In the end, he decided to stay home and watch The Open, but graciously allowed me to go.
It was a lovely afternoon and this gorgeous butterfly was around for most of it. It settled on the tables, on people’s hands, on the plates and glasses – and finally opened its wings for a while high up on the wall, revealing its brilliant blue stripe. Every so often, when the breeze picked up, two flaps came up to the side of its large blue eyes – presumably a rather smart protection system. You can just see them (and the blue stripe) if you enlarge the extra photo.
I went round after lunch to look at a beautiful futon settee/bed being sold by departing gringos, and bought it for our attic. Such a nice family, too bad we only get to meet them (through the site) when they’re leaving.
