Cinabar Caterpillar with Heather bokeh!

Whilst TheAphid has been gaming with his older cousins me and Rik sat in the sun and then the shade chatting with my older sisters. It was too hot for us so after lunch we were glad of the breeze whilst walking around Les Landes. we saw lots of skipper butterflies, commas, green hairstreaks, a painted lady, blues and a peacock. There were also loads of these cinnabar moth caterpillars on the ragwort.
We chatted to a lady doing a butterfly and moth monitoring survey for our local environment department. She agreed that the insect numbers have been very low this year but are slowly creeping up and again this week.She also mentioned how different butterflies fly at different times of day and the purple hairstreak near where we live likes late afternoon. Might just have to go on a mooch for one of those this week.
