The Fun Factor £1m vs £4k

We were up early and drove to the Spa Francorchamps track in beautiful sunshine. It was a thrill to glimpse the iconic Eau Rouge Raidillon complex through the trees for the first time.

Simon had booked a garage for us which I thought was brilliant. Our own base and loo for the duration. After the safety briefing we took to the cars for the sighting laps. We went straight out after this as the track is usually fairly quiet as many faff with their vehicles. I immediately fell in love with the circuit and understand what my daughter has been on about.

I stayed in the pits the next time she went out. When she came in she was quite distressed. A racing Lambo had broken the rules by overtaking on the right and frightened her. These are loud, wide, machines and blisteringly quick with a threatening, intimidating aura. Then we noticed Simon was missing. The same thing had happened to him and he had been to report it to the organisers with GoPro footage to prove it.

We had been warned by the organisers that rule breakers would be sent home and that's what happened. The Italian guy didn't take it very well. We learnt later that eleven other drivers had complained. After that everything was fine and for the most part drivers kept to the rules and were courteous to one another. I had brilliant passenger rides with Simon who is quick and knows the track very well and with Gerry who was on his second visit. He is quick too and silky smooth with it.

The heavens opened after lunch. My daughter is a good wet weather driver and she and Gerry went on track while many were skulking in their garages. They loved it, I was so proud of them. I had a wet session with Gerry and was whooping with joy at having the track almost to ourselves and picking Porsches off. :)

A Greek S2000 owner and instructor at the track came and sorted us out. He and his Italian mechanic friend, who also owns an S2000, joined us for dinner. We had such a fun time.

There was some quite serious metal on track. The most exotic was this Ferrari Enzo. From a limited edition and built to order only for existing Ferrari customers, it has a six litre V12 engine, does 0 to 60 in 3.14 seconds and has a top speed of 217 miles per hour. It's the most powerful naturally aspirated production car in the world and is worth a million pounds.

It wasn't going that quickly, the driver was having instruction. I'm sure my daughter, in her four thousand pound car, had just as much fun on the track. :) Jenson Button owned an Enzo for three years and only put seventy-five miles on the clock.
