Red Eyed Tree Frog
Day 3 of my brief exploratory trip around Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica... In the morning my host Scott, who is putting me up at his wonderful hotel The Falls Resort, drove us south to Nauyaca Falls. The falls are a bit tricky to access and require a combination of 4-wheel drive, horseback, and hiking, but they are spectacular. A two-tiered set of falls and cataracts that tumble down 150 feet and then another 65 feet to a huge swimming hole.
In the afternoon, we chased after butterflys and, after much patience and a lot of luck, managed to captured a beautiful Blue Morpho feeding on a red Heliconia flower.
But both of those paled in comparison to our trek into the local nature reserve this evening in search of some nocturnal amphibious wildlife. This Red Eyed Tree Frog was positioned perfectly, and even seemed to be posing, enabling me to take as many photos as I needed. I also captured (in camera) a Dusty Glass Frog, an Hourglass Frog, some Gladiator Frogs, and even a Northern Cat Eye snake (just mildly venomous...).
Got another busy day tomorrow...
