Great London Swim

Saturday 16th July 2016 (1421)

The day had arrived. We caught the train to the Royal Victoria Dock. As we got on the DLR I saw a couple of Jedi knights, a strange sight. When we changed at Canning Town we were engulfed by a lot of Jedi knights, stormtroopers, Luke skywalkers, etc. There was a Star Wars convention at the Excel next to the swim.

We met up with my brother and sister-in-law (who had travelled from Norfolk), another of my nieces and a couple of friends (fellow blipper Lacylady). It was good to have their support. It was gloriously sunny and the outside temperature was 26 degrees, making the water temperature a "warm" 18 degrees.

After a slow start I was able to get my head down and swim crawl all the way. I really enjoyed it.

Place 730th (85th in my age group, 364th in the ladies) not sure out of how many, clearly a lot less than Salford last year.

Thanks to Beewriter who got me in to this last year. I have set myself a challenge of completing all five of the great swims - Windermere and Ipswich to go! It's on my 50 for 50 list!

After the swim we all went for a lovely pub lunch, then went our separate ways. I returned to my niece's for a shower and to pack, then drove to Norfolk to stay with my brother and sister-in-law. Now for a few days "rest".

This time I was raising money for Willowbrook Hospice, our local Hospice in St Helens. Total stands at £680.
