Early Morning at The Gong
It was a foggy morning, so I went out 'early' to get a few of those misty early morning shots, but too late. I'll have to get up earlier.
This was the scene at The Gong, Buninyong, just near us.
The buildings in the background are the remains of an old brewery, Sheppard's Brewery, that once supplied the town's thirsty goldminers and then the farmers that came after them to the numerous pubs. There's only one now.
Chinese gold miners are said to have built The Gong by damming up the spring-fed creek for sluicing for alluvial gold, during the gold mining days of 1850-60s. It's a sort of lagoon now, and attracts a nice variety of water birds. Just a few water hens can be seen in the background. I'll blip a few further shots to give a better idea.
Isn't it strange how we always like to be near water.
