Aylesbeare Inn, Devon

Unpretentious, welcoming and a little wacky. Near to Exeter airport, but a little off the beaten track. No frills, no nonsense.
Good selection of real ales and West Country ciders. Home cooked, simple and generously portioned food. Friendly locals and staff and an air of lively chat and banter. Also great to see pickled eggs behind the bar (only proper pubs sell these!). A lovely example of what pubs were like before the big breweries and conglomerates turn them into poor quality drink and food fast turnover establishments
