Orchid survival bid

I must admit that I've been neglecting this orchid recently (it hasn't flowered for a couple of years, and I kind of lost interest...). Now I notice that it has put out a strong new stem, complete with tentative roots, presumably in the hope of starting a new life elsewhere. I feel guilty now, and I may have to try and grow on this new offshoot.
