Freiburg

Thursday
We have come away to the Black Forest in Germany for five days. We left home late yesterday afternoon, and spent the night in Belfort, France, then completed the journey this morning, arriving in Freiburg about 10 am. We drove through some heavy rain on the way this morning, but fortunately the rain held off the rest of the day until another shower this evening while we were having dinner. We visited the Munster first, admiring the beautiful stained glass, and climbing up the tower to enjoy the view. We had some lunch nearby, then explored the old town and university area, following a map from the tourist office. We are staying the first two nights in a lovely guesthouse recommended by a friend, in Pfaffenweiler, a small village in the midst of vineyards, about 20 minutes southwest of Freiburg. Unfortunately they were booked for the last two nights so we had to find somewhere else for Saturday and Sunday. We arrived here a little before 6pm, and having checked in we went for a walk around the village before an excellent dinner.
