Ftan
We set out in warm sunshine this morning to walk to the Bus Station and catch the postal bus to the village of Ftan high in the mountains. From there we walked higher up to the event arena for the Middle Qualification Race, based at the Hochalpines Institut Ftan which is a boarding sports school and a very fine building. Apparently it has an excellent reputation for nordic skiing, according to Robert who owns the house we are staying in here in Scuol.
Our youngsters excelled themselves today and seven of them qualified for the A Finals tomorrow. Once the event started it was fast and furious and there was much excitement amongst the small contingent of Brits!
After they had all run, it was our turn to head out in to the forest. Tony had a better day today, finishing 6th in his class, and I was 4th - very pleased with that result. The forest was very open but the ground was tricky in places with much rock and fallen branches etc. underfoot. Very enjoyable!
We didn't hang around at the end as the mist drew in and the rain began during our races so it was too cold and we were too wet to socialise for long. It was back down the hill and on to the postal bus back to Scuol where we did some shopping and had a cuppa before the hike back up the hill to Chasa Baignvu.
My blip is taken on our walk to the event centre looking over Ftan, glad I took it on the way up as you couldn't see much of it on the way back down!
