Not my favourite sculpture in Funchal

And this statue, on the roundabout beyond the Forum Shopping Centre is frequently moaned about.

I was told today, however, that it was erected in memory of the five workmen who died during the extending of the runway at the airport. Perhaps I'll moan about it a bit less and value it more.

I went just past this roundabout up to the Escola Hotelaria e Turismo da Madeira. They serve a brilliant lunch for € 7.50 - with glasses of an excellent house wine for € 1.90. Definitely to be recommended. The students are smart and charming and the surroundings are idyllic.

Another perfect day - and I even swam in the sea and it was warm....
