13 Lined Ground Squirrel

The 13 lined ground squirrel is showing off the 13 stripes on it's back. This is not an eastern chipmunk, which is smaller and has fewer stripes. The ground squirrel lives in grasslands and is active during the day, especially warm days. It hibernates in a burrow during winter, with respiration going from a normal 100-200 breaths per minute down to one breath every five minutes.

I rarely see ground squirrels, and have never blipped one before. Yay!
