Petrified Tree

A chilly 14 degrees to start the day but the sun soon came up and been a lovely warm and sunny day.

Up early to catch the bus, it never turned up, so we made our own way to the ferry and caught the group and headed to Fraser Island.  First stop was at Lake McKenzie, beautiful and managed a swim too :)  Then the long journey off road to the rainforest and a walk through the jungle.  A unique rainforest, grows in sand!  Lunch at our hotel and then a cruise down 75 Mile Beach, with various stops, walks and wildlife spotting.  We saw humpback whales again and also wild dingos :)  Meet in with a good bunch on our tour, on Aussie boy's grandparents even came from Shetland :)  Had our evening meal and a few pints with them all tonight.  Early start with day two of the tour :)

We went for a walk in the hills, just off 75 Mile Beach.  It took us inland to a sandblow and what a sight.  There are  36 active sandblows on the isle and they blow east to west, 1 metre a year.  They destroy the forest as they move but it soon grows back as they pass.  This old petrified tree got caught out thousands of years ago but still remains in the dunes.  Taken at Kirrar Sandblow, Fraser Island.
