Distressed rather than derelict perhaps...
...the upstairs rooms at Allan Banks, home to Wordsworth, and more latterly Canon Rawnsley who founded the National Trust. This was a private house - regularly visited by Beatrix Potter in her time - until in 2010 a fire caused massive damage. The then tenants were rehoused and the house partially restored. As an experiment it was opened to the public, and feedback suggested that it shouldn't be developed too much. Most of the rooms have bare plaster, and there is even now some evidence of smoke damage. It is still, however, a vibrant place - the rooms are used for painting, crafts, and various other children's activities, and the grounds are fascinating ( we even spotted a red squirrel! ).
The technology twist is in the very obvious fire alarm - I guess it's a must, bearing in mind the history of the house!
