Possibly a visiting greenfinch
My long meeting this morning about Lansdown Hall went well and the new team looks ready to take over the mantle. I then borrowed a projector which I hope to use for my illustrated talk next week, but the age old problem of connections raised its weary head. The technology is old and doesn't match the quality threshold of a dedicated hi-resolution screen which I'd hoped to borrow, but now cannot. So I've started looking for ways to connect which may take some research. I just wish I could get a more modern projector with better quality output.
When I got home I grabbed a quick lunch but was rather put off by the horrendous noise made by three fighter aircraft that kept flying around the sky overhead. The incredible volume was very annoying. Then I worked out by checking online, that a new stealth fighter aircraft has recently arrived from the USA and is stationed at the relatively nearby Fairford airfield. It was the location for many of the American long range bombers that were used to attack Iraq, and we used to see B-52 bombers with cruise missiles hanging from their wings coming and going both day and night. Fairford has closed as an American base but is now the site of the regular Air Tattoo sometime in the next few weeks, so the aircraft today were probably practising.
While I was outside I spotted this bird at the feeder and wondered what it was. I don't recognise it as a regular visitor, so perhaps it has come for an air display as well. I got my camera and took some quick shots after it had moved to the bird's water bath. It looked at me from a distance, carried on drinking and washing its face and then would shake any excess water off around in the air. I'm assuming it is a greenfinch but I'm prepared to be wrong. You can see that I don't really know much about birds, just enjoy looking at them and their antics.
