Dunk Island sits a short boat ride from the mainland . It has rainforest , walking trails and is surrounded by crystal clear waters .

There is a small resort on the island that had a battering from cyclone Yasi 5 years ago , massive damage to all the infrastructure .Currently there are a few campsites with some basic facilities . It is currently under going some rebuilding and the new owners have been given a ten year completion date or the Island will be entirely restored to National Park .
