View on a Storm
Normally it would be full daylight at this time (just after 5:30 p.m.). I photographed the houses opposite moments before a gust front from a violent thunderstorm hit with 70 mph (113 kilometers per hour) winds.
We lost electrical power for 12 sweltering humid hours. The dog and I slept hugging a towel-wrapped ice pack to stay cool.
I'd filled the fridge and freezer that afternoon with groceries, now turned to slop.
I spent the evening reading Slade House by David Mitchell--a deliciously spooky read in the candlelight and eerie dark silence.
