Canon Street
This is Canon Street in Winchester. It is very close to the Cathedral Close, Kingsgate and ultra posh Winchester College.
Digression but I must tell you this: I saw a lad today in T shirt and chinos greeting his tutor. It's school hols so he can wear what he likes. But he said he was dressed like that because his girlfriend told him too. Then he apologised for his headgear. He called it a 'chav cap'. It was a ball cap for heaven's sake! When I'm ninety some cloth-head like that will be running the country - how scary is that?)
I'm very fond of Canon Street. This is what it must have been like in so many places a hundred years ago. No cars. Consequently, the street is simply communal space and every time I walk down there chances are I'll see people popping over to talk to a neighbour, waving through a window to someone inside, or just standing in the middle of the road gassing. Taking the air - isn't that what it used to be called? Of course we need our cars, but we do lose something by it.
Okay, now I must catch up with your journals. Thanks for your lovely comments on yesterday's scabious :)
xx
