Goathland, Yorkshire

Although many may recognise the location as Aidensfield, from the TV series "Heartbeat" about the police in a Yorkshire village set in the 1960's.

We got here on the North York Moors Railway - a preserved railway, hauled by a steam engine from Pickering. The steam train stops further up the track at Grossmont as a rule, although the tracks connect to the main line at Whitby.

Goathland was lovely, although every shop held a myriad of cheap souvenirs. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the cafe. I cannot comment on the Goathland hotel - erstewhile Aidensfield Arms - because we didn't go in!
