Lost My Marbles?

I think I may have! I bought a new coop for the Allotment girls!! It's a purple Eglu Cube! Made of plastic it is a dream to clean and therefore if the mites do return they can be easily dispatched! I am just so fed up with the red mites and the thought of blow torching and  creosoting the wooden coop was just too much for me. Particularly as it has a metal sheet screwed on top of the roof and the damn things would probably just hide up there. It will house 10 chickens - so room for one more or two bantams if we like as we have 9 full sized girls and then little Izzy and Henrietta! It was expensive and I will have to dip into my funds to pay for it, but given the pleasure I get from the girls worth it. Plus long term it will save money on mite products, vet bills and  bedding, not to mention my health as all the spraying the last few days has really got to my throat let alone my lungs and probably every cell in my body!
So after this major action ( expense!) I just sat around and read my book! After all  I was up at 7 to catch the mites in my home coop before they vanished into the wood for the day. Not too many but then the way they reproduce even a few are a few too many! I sprayed it again and kept going back and checking it - squishing a few each time. I did look at buying a smaller Eglu for home, but it would mean a major change around of everything in the garden, and need space at the back to take out the droppings tray and collect eggs, and I have 2 drain pipes that empty onto the ground so this makes it a bit difficult to site even though it would be raised off the ground. But if my battle is not won against the little red devils I will just have to find a way round it and buy one - mmmm, what colour I wonder!!!
