Smooth brome

Brome, Bromus inermis, is widespread in Kansas and often planted for hay. It was introduced from Eurasia in the 1880s and is well naturalized nowadays. A good brome hay will often have a higher protein content than even alfalfa.

A hot humid day, 94ºF at 4 in the afternoon and a heat index of about 110. I think this is the most humid day we have had so far this summer. Typical for this time of year.
