A Steadier Footing

firelight

the friendly snow swirling
as wind brushes my face.
bitter, it chills across
the nape of my neck
and along my arms,
around my fingers.

my whole body trembles
as the sub-freezing temperatures
eek into my pores.
quickly, i brace myself against the
red brick to steady myself,
my left hand focuses the shot,
but still i quake.
all i need is one moment,
a deep breath
