19th century tenements in Aberdeen

The 19th century answer to the housing crisis as a result of a mass influx of migrants coming into Scotland. Many towns quadrupled in size within a few decades leading to overcrowding and squalor. Over 200,000 homes were one-room homes with the average number of people living in each room was 5. Sanitary conditions were described as "defective" and "....the atmosphere foully tainted and rendered almost unendurable by its loathsomeness at those periods when offal and nuissance require to be deposited on the streets..."
A far cry from conditions today - what are people complaining about?
