The Pineapple House
Our last day in Scotland today, and we drove over to The Pineapple House. My grandparents used to have a model of this house, after visiting Scotland many years ago.
We almost didn't find it - there was a distinct lack of signs, so we ended up on the wrong road. Then we turned back, and got on the right road, but it was so thin and potholed we weren't sure if it was a road or just a path! We finally spotted a "car park" sign and heaved a sigh of relief. The car park was completely empty, and we saw not another soul while we were there...
When the pineapple was first discovered and brought to this country, it was considered a great display of wealth to own a pineapple. Apparently, weathly individuals used to put a pineapple on top of their gates to signify they were home from their travels and receiving visitors.
This building is now divided into holiday lets. More details about this particular building can be found on wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunmore_Pineapple
