Coughton Court NT
My most recent visit to the Midlands on family business took place last Thursday week, with several stops along the way. Lunch took place at the Old Manse in Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. In the summer the village is filled with hordes of visitors but we were fortunate to find it relatively tourist free and were able to stroll along the Windrush unencumbered by crowds. From there the sat-nav was set to 'Shortest Route' and took us along some delightful minor roads, by chance passing through Bidford-on-Avon again, where we stopped to look at the river.
Later in the afternoon we came upon Coughton Court, a National Trust property in Warwickshire, and stopped for a look around the house, garden and grounds, and had a coffee there.
I wasn't going to walk up the tower because of my acrophobia, but curiosity got the better of me. I had to grip the steel rails with one hand to counter my giddiness while I took this picture and quickly staggered back, having gone very red in the face, apparently. Therefore, it clearly had to be the blip for the day.
Incidentally, as Wikipedia explains, "'Vertigo' is often used (incorrectly) to describe a fear of heights, but it is more accurately a spinning sensation that occurs when one is not actually spinning. It can be triggered by looking down from a high place, or by looking straight up at a high place or tall object, but this alone does not describe vertigo. True vertigo can be triggered by almost any type of movement (e.g. standing up, sitting down, walking) or change in visual perspective (e.g. squatting down, walking up or down stairs, looking out of the window of a moving car or train)." Hitchcock's film is said to be the chief culprit for the confusion.
