Diuris magnifica

Spotted these wild growing orchids on our afternoon walk and a sure sign the wildflowers are about to start popping out in spots of colour.

'Magnifica' is a big name for a little dude and perennial native to the Australian bush. Mimicking a pea flower, pollinating bees are attracted as are passing beetles and flies that help out with the pollination process.

Also known as Donkey Orchids with their 'donkey ear' lateral petals, this one is still in 'Eyore mode' with a floppy ear slowly unfurling!
