Commemoration

I thought the poppies in the churchyard would be an appropriate blip for today on the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.  I took my children to Thiepval when they were teenagers as part of their and my education.  It is such a haunting place.  We should never have forgotten the brutality and senseless of war but, in fact, our memories are selective when it comes to such things.
