Little Hopper

While sitting in our back sunroom this afternoon I noticed a red cardinal near our pool. And then I noticed that he was going after this rather large grasshopper. The grasshopper jumped into the pool in order to get away but then couldn't get out. R had to scoop him out with the pool skimmer.

He then set him/her on one of our plants to try and recuperate. What a great photo op that gave me! Not really sure what happened to it after that as it started to rain quite heavily. I hope it survived.

After I downloaded the photos off the camera to my computer I noticed a very small bug on the rear of the grasshopper. Not sure if this is a baby or some other type of bug. You can see it if you enlarge the photo.
