Whistle Blowing Vigil
The Riders Branch took the final half hour of the vigil that started at 20:45 last night. 5 people took it in shifts to stand there all night at the memorial in the grounds of St James Church, Quedgeley, Gloucester. If I'd known there were only 5 doing it I'd have volunteered to do a shift but it's my fault for not enquiring.
Got there at 07:00 this morning. Took a few photographs for Wilf (chap in the foreground, he is the Gloucestershire Rep for the RBL Riders Branch). Spent the rest of the time in silent contemplation but no matter how you try you cannot imagine what it must have been like in that terrifying environment that was the trenches at the Somme area. After the 2 minute silence the whistle was blown 3 times for the signal to go 'over the top'. A very chilling moment and I hope it is never forgotten.
Reveille was played by a young lady from the nearby school and a wreath laid by another.
