Working Class Britain

This area dates from Victorian times, and close observation would notice the Hovis sign on one building. The company owned a good few of these. The area is full of back to back houses on one side, and bigger houses on the other. It has, since Victorian times, been home to generations of immigrants. In the thirties, there was a big Jewish diaspora, then they earned money and moved out, replaced by Irish. I have seen Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Somalian, then Polish, and now Hungarian, Albanian and Romanian. The face of the shops changes with the local community - and it makes it a very vibrant area. I hope it stays that way.
