A little boy we know is turning six and the forester wanted to buy him Danny Champion Of The World by Roald Dahl.  He enjoyed reading the book to our son when he was five.  Once in the shop I couldn't just buy one book.  I had a very enjoyable time collecting this pile of books. 
A board book for the birthday boys one year old brother.  A big picture book about feelings for his four year old sister who is sometimes anxious.  An amusing Swedish novel for me.  A weighty tome about the destruction of indigenous forests for the forester (naturally) A post-apocalyptic fantasy novel for the daughter.  There are also two thin picture books that don't show up.  Whose Beak Is This? about New Zealand birds and Bruiser about a front end loader on a mission.  For New Zealanders it is by Gavin Bishop and the dedication is: 
To the rebuilders of Christchurch after the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
